Community Gardens: Typical Costs

Views:19724|Rating:3.85|View Time:3:45Minutes|Likes:87|Dislikes:26
When starting a community garden, you should plan a budget. One of the major costs may be providing water for the garden, and preparing the site initially. There are also one-time costs such as writing by-laws and building infrastructure. And, there are ongoing costs for maintenance and water bills. Faux Fabric Clay Planters | Weekend DIYs

Views:2081|Rating:4.90|View Time:54Minutes|Likes:47|Dislikes:1
Lately, I’ve got the unshakeable urge to fill my home with plants. So, in order to accommodate my new green friends, I’ve molded up some clay planters that mimic the look of fabric for a cool sculptural effect. And just for good measure, I’ve added a contrasting lining to really help the clay fabric folds pop around the perimeter of the planter. Look complicated? Not in the least. Just roll out the clay; then drape it and bake it. You’ll be on your way to a plant filled home in no time!

Planting Tomatoes – Using Horse Manure Compost for Soil Building

Views:60728|Rating:4.93|View Time:8:27Minutes|Likes:665|Dislikes:9
I’m doing something different this year, planting all of my tomatoes in the same garden. But the soil needs some work. So I brought in enough composted horse manure to give me about 4-5 inches to till into the soil. The red clay is not easy to work with, but if past experience is any indication, the tomatoes will do just fine. Anytime I’ve ever used the horse manure, the plants have done extremely well. We’ll take a look at what I used to help with the hardening off process. And that little snake? He’s still out there somewhere. I couldn’t find him after I shut off the camera. 🙂

Landscape that provides Seclusion in an Urban Setting | Volunteer Gardener

Marty DeHart gives us a detailed tour of a landscape she designed. The client wanted to experience a sense of seclusion from the close neighbors, wasn’t big on flowers, and needed a dog-friendly space. This design contains quite a stellar plant palette in which to draw inspiration.
