SECRETS OF PLANT SURGERY | Types of Pruning in Gardening

Views:15422|Rating:4.73|View Time:6:10Minutes|Likes:546|Dislikes:31
This is Very Important Task in Gardening for Plant Growth and Flowering. In this video, we will learn some useful methods and concepts on pruning – cutting or trimming your plants for better growth and flowering. We will learn useful topics like when and how to prune a plant, Types of Pruning like Hard and Soft Pruning and Types of pruning cuts and lastly which Pruning Tools to choose.

Pruning means cutting or trimming the plant parts like branches, stems or leaves for the sake of your plants health and sometimes to maintain plant shape and form.

It is a very important work in gardening specially if you want your plants to perform well
Another advantage of pruning is it allows you to remove the damaged or infected branches and leaves which can further spread and cause more damage.

In this episode, we will precisely look into many questions about plant pruning like:

a) When to prune which plants.

b) Types of Pruning

c) How to Prune and Why?

d) Pruning Tools

e) And many other concepts and tips on pruning.

Before we proceed with these topics, first of all its important to know that pruning or cutting is actually wounding your plant. So doing it properly is really important. Pruning is actually a Plant Surgery similar to human or animal surgery, done either to save a plant from disease and also to make it look neat and good. Like the surgical wound, pruning also induces a wound or injury at the point of incision and this wound has to heal properly.
So Lets begin:
*** Please Watch the Video for all Details and explanations. ***

1. When to prune which plants?

2. Types of Pruning for house plants? Here we will learn Hard Pruning, Soft Pruning, Rejuvenation Pruning, Dead Heading and many other useful tips.

Deadheading means removal of dead or dried flowers from a plant which has just flowered. Sometimes it has to be a constant process and this diverts the plant energy into new growth and more flowering rather than drying up and consuming this energy into the seed formation process.

3. How to Prune? And Types of Pruning Cuts? We will learn two important cuts here: Heading and Thinning Cuts:

If you are not sure how to and when to prune a particular plant, I still suggest you to atleast perform soft pruning atleast once in its growth cycle.

Pruning Indeterminate Tomatoes in Containers and Identifying Tomato ‘Suckers’

Views:628035|Rating:4.81|View Time:4:3Minutes|Likes:4753|Dislikes:183
Tomato ‘suckers’ will actually turn into stems that produce tomatoes. If you don’t prune the ‘suckers’ from your indeterminate plants you will end up with dozens of stems that produce tomatoes. It is a problem. You will end up with too much growth that is difficult to manage. That can lead to diseases, more but smaller tomatoes and you end up with a plant that won’t survive in a container. You have to prune indeterminate container tomatoes to one main productive stem. If you are adventurous and can manage the plants water… you can get away with to main production stems.

Pruning Perennial Salvias / Joy Us garden

You can read the blog post PRUNING PERENNIAL SALVIAS that goes with this video here:

In this post, I share with how to prune woody & deciduous herbaceous Salvias.

Salvias are popular all over the world over. I’ve seen them growing in England, the Canary Islands, Mexico and in many different places here in the US. These plants are so versatile because they can comfortably fit into many styles of gardens from old fashioned cottage right up to modern simplistic. They grow well here in California where our Mediterranean climate suits them to a tee and they are loved because they have a long bloom time. Their non-thirsty ways just plain make sense given our lack of rainfall for the last 3 years.

I was a professional gardener in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 15 years. This is where I first learned all about perennial salvias. The nursery where I worked in Berkeley sold many different species and varieties of them. This post is all about sharing what I know about pruning the two most popular types of perennial salvias which you probably have in your own garden.

Here’s the link so you can read the rest of the post & get all my tips for Pruning Perennial Salvias:

Garden author Doug Green at show you pruning techniques for flowers that will give you even more flowers from a single plant. Simply pinch out the growing tips of the young flower plant and it will develop a bushier, strong growth with more stems. The increased number of stems will, in turn, produce more flowers. Yes, this technique works with any flowering plant that produces from a central stem.

Do This to Grow Plant Faster 1000 times | Air Pruning DIY Experiment Hacks

Views:296617|Rating:4.70|View Time:7:36Minutes|Likes:5459|Dislikes:343
Today am really excited to share some knowledge with an experiment and hack to grow plants faster than usual. You can try and implement on your plants to make them grow faster, healthier, stronger and better yielding. And am sure you will be really shocked to see the results of this gardening hack at the end of the video. You can grow a large fruit tree in a smaller container using this method. I will also show you which containers to choose for this method and also How you can make your own DIY pots and planters at home for this purpose. And All my videos are based on scientific research and are proven methods in gardening. All that’s coming up.
Well, We will start with the Term AIR PRUNING. You might have heard about Air Layering, Water Layering and Root Pruning. But what is Air Pruning. This is a pretty simple concept. I will try to make it more simplified in this video but very quickly without boring you and I shall explain the scientific details. Please watch the entire video and we will leave the complicated microscopic level explanation to the scientists and the PHDs.

So, the Air pruning benefits – It not only provides an enormous surface area to absorb those soil nutrients, but Drainage will also improve, increasing the amount of oxygen in the root zone and reducing the pooling of water, which in turn reduces the risk of root rot. You will notice faster growth of plants, healthier plants, and significantly increased yields.
So, Now How do I implement this in my Containers at Home gardening or Container gardening Level?
Best is to start air pruning early. When a cutting or seedling has rooted, you can transplant it into a air pruning pots.

So, Now we will look into different ways to design your own DIY air pruning pots and planters.
Watch video.
Actually this was my first experience with air pruning and at present I Personally feel we should use air pruning on every plant we grow in containers. Try it yourself; you won’t be disappointed. Will keep adding more plants to this technique and will share the results with you in my coming videos including the DIY Jeans air pruning pot we made. So that you don’t have to spend money on those costly hitec air pruning pots available in market.
If there are so many Pros on air pruning, there should be some disadvantages too.
The only disadvantage I see is the Plants dry out quicker than conventional pots, so frequent watering or drip irrigation is recommended.

So, there you have it folks, That was something new to learn in gardening – that’s about Air pruning and Gardening Hacks on Air pruning. If you like the video, please hit a thumbs up for me and also share this video on social media and friends. Do let me know your queries in the comments section below the video. Also do let me your experience with air pruning and also some more DIY ideas for air pruning pots. Also consider subscribing to the channel if you are new to the channel. Happy Gardening !
