CBC TV’s “Canadian Gardener,” David Tarrant visits Michael Binkley

In May, 1996, CBC Television’s David Tarrant, host of “Canadian Gardener” visited Michael Binkley’s sculpture garden in North Vancouver, BC, Canada to see the “Sculpture in the Garden” exhibition. This was the second of several annual sculpture exhibitions that Binkley produced until 2002. These fine art shows were the model for the now popular annual “Art in the Garden” tour that the North Vancouver Community Arts Council organizes.
It is fun to see a much younger Binkley here and to see Binkley Sculpture Studios in the days before the addition of the gallery space on Binkley’s property.

British Queen Visits the 100th Annual Chelsea Flower Show

The Queen of England previews the Chelsea Flower Show before it opens to the general public.

Full story:

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip previewed London’s Chelsea Flower Show on Monday (May 20).

The 100th annual show, which opens to the public on Tuesday (May 21) featured an array of flowers and designs, as well models wearing dresses made of real flowers.

This year’s show also featured the Forget-Me-Not garden representing Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale, which helps vulnerable children in the southern African country Lesotho.

Prince Harry could be seen greeting his father, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, before welcoming his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth to inspect the Forget-Me-Not garden.

This year saw a change in the rules of the flower show, with The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which runs Chelsea in the grounds of the Christopher Wren-built Royal Hospital Chelsea, lifting a ban on garden gnomes in order to raise funds for an RHS charity that supports the use of gardens in schools.

Some 100 gnomes decorated by singer Elton John, actress Helen Mirren, “Downton Abbey” screenwriter Julian Fellowes and other celebrities have taken up residence by the Great Pavilion at the heart of the show. They are also up for auction on e-Bay.

The Chelsea Flower Show will see more than 160,000 visitors this year.
